Analysis of Net Primary Productivity of Retired Farmlands in the Grain-for-Green Project in China from 2011 to 2020

The Grain-for-Green Project (GFGP), one of the largest ecological restoration projects in China, has made a significant contribution to carbon neutrality. However, quantitative climate change and driving forces sequestration retired farmlands remains unclear. To analyze dynamics their forces, GlobeLand30 databases were used identify from 2001 2020; addition, net primary productivity (NPP) identified lands was estimated with Carnegie–Ames–Stanford Approach (CASA). Results showed that 131,298 km2 2010 (L01–10), 130,225 2011 2020 (L11–20). areas South Central China (24%) L01–10 Northwest (22%) L11–20. annual NPP increment highest most Southwest (26,455–28,783 GgC·year−1 for 21,320–23,303 L11–20). In this study, had significantly positive correlations temperature precipitation as well constraint relationships rural population density animal husbandry output value. findings could provide suggestions further implementation GFGP other projects.
